OUR MISSION

We support schools in strengthening their use of student voice and students centered practices to enhance overall school and culture.

OUR VISION

We envision a world where students are driving, co-creating, and innovating the future version of the education system.

OUR CORE VALUES

EDUCATION

We believe education should be a tool for liberation, empowering students and educators to explore their full potential. By fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and culturally responsive practices, we create spaces where learning transforms lives.

Empowerment

Empowerment begins with recognizing the voices of students and educators as catalysts for change. We equip schools with the tools and strategies needed to inspire confidence, leadership, and meaningful action in their schools and classrooms.

EQUITY

Equity means creating educational environments where every student has access to the resources, opportunities, and support they need to thrive. We prioritize practices that address systemic barriers and center the needs of underserved communities.

Community

Community is the foundation of transformative education, built through meaningful relationships and shared goals. We work to create schools where students and educators collaborate to build cultures of trust, belonging, and collective growth.

Our Story

MEET OUR CEO, EVALAURENE Jean-Charles

Heyyyy! I’m Evalaurene Jean-Charles—a passionate educator, unapologetic advocate, and CEO & Co-Founder of Black on Black Education. Through my work, I help schools tap into the power of student voice and student-centered practices to create classrooms that feel alive, joyful, and impactful. Oh, and I’m also a history teacher in the Bronx, where I love on my students daily, reminding them that they are brilliant, worthy, and capable of changing the world.

My journey to education started at The Center for Alternative Sentencing and Employment Services in Brooklyn, where I worked as a tutor and workshop leader for students navigating alternative sentencing programs. That experience lit a fire in me for educational equity and social justice—I realized how transformational education could be when it centers the voices of those often left out of the conversation.

Fast forward a bit, I graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s in Unique and Interdisciplinary Studies from the CUNY Graduate Center. My concentrations? The Sociology of Educational Equity and Social Justice in Underserved Communities. In other words, I studied the systems that impact our schools and the ways we can—and must—dismantle them for the better. Then, I leveled up my teaching game with a Master of Arts in Teaching from Relay Graduate School of Education, earning Distinctions in 2022 (yes, I worked hard, and I’m proud of it).

Along the way, I’ve worn many hats, from facilitating public speaking workshops with Vocal Justice to rethinking what K-12 content should truly reflect as part of the reDesign K-12 Content Mapping Design Studio. I’ve spoken at conferences, sat on panels, and shared stages to challenge educators to center equity, empower students of color, and reimagine what’s possible in our schools. Oh, and that "30 Under 30" Award I got in 2021 from Ignite Caribbean? A little reminder that when you stay committed to the work, people notice.

Through Black on Black Education, I’m on a mission to help educators and schools not just survive but thrive. This work isn’t just my job—it’s my love letter to every student who deserves to walk into a classroom where they feel seen, heard, and valued.

Let’s change the game, y’all. Together.
