Student Action Board
Transform your school culture with a curriculum that amplifies student voices, fosters leadership, and builds a stronger, more joyful school community.
What is the Student Action Board?
-
Phase 1, Student Exploration, is the foundational phase in the Student Action Board (SAB) curriculum, where students begin reflecting on their personal experiences within the education system. The goal of this phase is to help students connect with their own journeys and identify areas where they want to advocate for change. This phase also helps students foster self-awareness, community-building, and trust among their peers, allowing them to feel empowered to speak up. By exploring their own stories and hearing from their peers, students develop a sense of purpose, laying the groundwork for their roles as change makers throughout the program.
-
Phase 2, The Methods of a Movement, is where students shift from reflection to action, learning about the research methods they will use to create meaningful change. This phase is crucial for empowering students with the tools to gather and analyze data, as well as develop the foundational skills of ethical research, critical thinking, and problem-solving. By exploring the significance of representation, community assets, and deficiencies, students gain a deeper understanding of how research can amplify their voices. The skills developed here will serve as the backbone of their advocacy work, preparing them to approach school challenges methodically and ethically.
-
Phase 3, Uncovering the Story, is when students transition from planning to action by collecting and analyzing data. This phase serves to equip students with the skills to gather real-world information from their peers and school community. Through data collection and analysis, students learn to uncover patterns and insights, which are essential for making informed decisions. This phase not only teaches students the value of structured research but also empowers them to identify the core challenges in their school, setting the stage for their advocacy work. It emphasizes the importance of organization, collaboration, and reflection in making meaningful change.
-
Phase 4, Students Ignite Change, is the culmination of the Student Action Board curriculum, where students synthesize their learnings into impactful presentations. In this phase, students are tasked with transforming their data-driven insights into powerful advocacy projects, using creative mediums to communicate their findings and propose actionable solutions. This phase allows students to take ownership of their work, reflect on their journey, and showcase their ability to influence positive change in their school communities. By developing and presenting their projects, students work to build confidence, leadership, and advocacy skills, empowering them to be change makers beyond the program.
