Empowering Students to Drive Change in Schools
The Student Action Board (SAB) is a comprehensive elective course curriculum designed to empower students to identify challenges within their school community, research solutions, and suggest transformative, student-driven initiatives to their school leadership. This program fosters leadership, critical thinking, and self-advocacy skills among student participants while helping schools take the guesswork out of building polices and initiatives that will truly meet students needs.
What is the Student Action Board?
The SAB is a elective course curriculum that guides students through the following four-phase process:
Phase 1 Student Exploration: This is where the magic begins. Students dig deep into their own stories, reflect on their experiences in education, and connect with their peers to build a strong sense of community. Together, they identify the areas where they’re ready to advocate for real change. This phase is all about self-awareness, trust, and purpose—a solid foundation for stepping into their power as change-makers.
Phase 2 The Methods of a Movement: Now, we get tactical. Students learn the skills to become researchers and problem-solvers, diving into ethical research methods, and building a primary research study. This is where they gain the tools to amplify their voices and the voices of their peers, approaching addressing school challenges with strategy and intention. It’s about moving from passion to action, laying the groundwork for impactful advocacy.
Phase 3 Uncovering the Story: Here’s where ideas meet action. Students take what they’ve learned and apply it to real-world research, gathering and analyzing data from their peers and school community. They uncover the patterns and insights that reveal the heart of their school’s challenges. Collaboration, organization, and reflection are key as students turn research into understanding and prepare for the change they’re about to create.
Phase 4 Students Ignite Change: This is the grand finale—the moment when students step into their roles as leaders and advocates. They transform their research into bold, creative advocacy projects that demand attention and inspire action. By sharing their insights and proposing solutions, students take ownership of their journey, showcasing their leadership and confidence as they push for meaningful change in their school communities and beyond.
This isn’t just a program—it’s a movement. Students don’t just participate; they lead, they grow, and they leave ready to take on the world.
