Teacher Action Board

An opportunity to connect with educators across the country around caring for ourselves as educators and our Black & Brown students!

“Education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better than you found it.”

— Marian Wright Edelman

The Black on Black Education Teacher Action Board is a collaborative space committed to equity and supporting all folks in education.

We strive to:

1) Connect with others and combat personal burnout.

Being an educator is one of the hardest jobs in the world. According to Fortune magazine, “teachers are the most burned-out workers in America,” more than half of educators (52%) report experiencing burnout. We want to help do something about that!

2) Amplify the individual and collective perspectives of educators.

The experience of educators across the country is extremely vast. When we come together, we identify the answers to some of the most pressing issues we face as educators.

3) Provide BOBE with the information we need to be responsive to the needs of everyday teachers.

Black on Black Education is an organization committed to amplifying the voices of young people! What are the barriers to doing this work in your classes? We want to understand them so we can support you!

How do we do this work?

  • Series 1 will run from Tuesday, September 6th to Tuesday, November 1st. This series is focused on Student-Centered Practices (Application Deadline August 25th).

Students must remain at the center of our minds as we develop our class culture, curriculums, and building daily class practices. Student-Centered Practices allow students to feel empowered, which is an important way to increase students’ sense of belonging in the classroom.

We created this series to help educators learn and collaborate around the best practices to keep students at the center of our practice.

  • Series 2 will run monthly from Wednesday, December 7th to Wednesday, February 1st.

This series was created out of a commitment to support alleviating the sense of Teacher burnout that educators in the TAB feel (Application Deadline November 25th).

Working for young people is the most rewarding work in the world, but it is also some of the most challenging work.

Teachers are burnt out and struggling to take care of themselves. This series is perfectly tailored to support educators in building self-care plans that work to serve you in being well enough for the kids that you serve.

  • Series 3 will run from Tuesday, March 7th - Tuesday, May 9th. This series will be focused on Teaching for Black Lives (Application Deadline November 25th).

Black Lives Mattered 100 years ago, 50 years ago, in the summer of 2020, and NOW. Although we can believe in BLM at schools, many don’t know how to actualize it in practice.

In this 3 part series, in partnership with the Zinn Education Teaching for Black Lives Campaign, we learn or unlearn our power. By supporting educators in the classroom and the community, teach to the need of Black and Brown students. Together, we are helping dismantle anti-Blackness in education.

The 2022-2024 Teacher Action Board will be 9 months broken into 3 series

Each series lasts for 3 months (1.5 hours each session)

Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis until February 25th, 2023
